Soprano
Sarah Long Holland is equally at home on the recital and opera stages. Recent concert performances include
recitals in the New York area with classical guitarist Lawrence Del Casale, an
appearance on the Faculty Concert Series at the Berklee College of Music in
Boston, and an upcoming engagement with the New Gallery Concert Series in
Boston. In April of 2007, she
presented a recital of French and American song repertoire, including the
world premiere of a newly commissioned song cycle by Jonathan Bailey Holland,
as part of the Christ Chapel Concert Series at the Riverside Church in New
York. Hailed by Opera News as a performer of particular note for her
performance as The Foreign Woman in The Consul with the Bronx Opera, other
recent roles include the title role in Suor Angelica with the Opera Company of
Brooklyn, Desdemona in Otello and Violetta in La Traviata with the DellArte Opera
Ensemble, Leonora in Il Trovatore and Desdemona in Otello with the One World Symphony,
Mim in La Bohme with the Bronx Opera, Micaela in La Tragdie de Carmen with Harrisburg Opera and
the Olney Theatre, Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito with the New York Opera
Studio, and Juliette in Romo et Juliette, Micaela in La Tragdie de
Carmen, and
Elettra in Idomeneo with the Opera Institute at Boston University. She has
also performed with Tulsa Opera and the Brandenburg Opera, and as a young
artist with Central City Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera North, and the Aspen
Music Festival. Internationally,
she has performed in concert in St. Petersburg, Russia with artists from the
Mariinsky Academy, at the Mikkeli International Music Festival in Mikkeli,
Finland, and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy, where she
studied with acclaimed soprano Renata Scotto. She has created and
performed outreach concerts for the Boston Lyric Opera and has performed in
concert with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra as Donna Anna in Don
Giovanni
and as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro. Ms.
Long Holland has been a featured soloist at the Riverside Church in New York,
where she was a long time member of the Riverside Choir. She can be
heard on the Newport Classics recordings of The Ballad of Baby Doe and Miss Julie and has performed live on
Vermont Public Radio. She was a semi-finalist for the New England Region of
the Metropolitan Opera Competition in 2003 and is a winner of the Sarasota
Opera Guild Leo Rogers Memorial Award. Ms.
Long Holland received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from
Stanford University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Manhattan
School of Music, and an Advanced Certificate from the Opera Institute at
Boston University. She is originally from Bethesda, Maryland and
currently resides in Boston with her husband, composer Jonathan Bailey
Holland. |

and Bethesda native Sarah Long nearly stole the show in her
brief moments as the tenderhearted Micaela, Don Joses discarded fiance. Her
signature Act III aria, Je dis que rien ne mՎpouvante was a marvel of
control, alternating bravery with fear, and convincing high notes with a
